(Metal) Cut off saws can be identified as different from (wood) miter saws by the clamp used to hold the material. Any material in a cut off saw should be secured, as the forces involved can easily exceed a persons ability to safely hold them.
Cut off saw blades either have toothed blades or abrasive discs:
- Ferric metals (iron and steel) should NOT be cut with a toothed blade, in most cases.
- Abrasive discs should NEVER be used on aluminum or other soft metals.
